Celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Zahid Group

Zahid Group proudly celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd with a special awareness event that focused on learning, empathy, and inclusion. The program brought employees together in a warm and supportive atmosphere, highlighting the importance of accessibility for everyone.

Opening the Event

The event began with a welcoming introduction from Moath Ba Jamal, who set a positive tone and reminded everyone of the value of understanding and supporting persons with disabilities.

Understanding Speech Stuttering

A short talk on speech stuttering helped build awareness and respect toward people who experience this communication challenge. The audience then watched two inspiring videos from Ahmed Al-Mehna and Najoud Mohammed, sharing their real-life stories with honesty and strength.

Sensory Awareness Experiences

To deepen understanding and empathy, employees participated in sensory awareness experiences during the event.

• Visual Impairment Simulation:

Participants tried activities with limited or no vision, helping them understand challenges faced by individuals with visual disabilities.

• Hearing Impairment Simulation:

Specialized auditory experiences allowed participants to feel how reduced or unclear hearing affects communication. This activity helped many realize the importance of supportive communication techniques.

These hands-on experiences created a powerful emotional connection and increased appreciation for accessibility and inclusion.

A Story of Hope and Strength

One of the most touching moments came from Mr. Ridhwan Shekhoon from the PCD Department. He shared his personal journey of battling cancer at a young age — a journey in which he eventually lost his leg. Through dedication to sports and physical activity, he regained confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of purpose. His story touched the audience and served as a powerful reminder that courage and determination turn challenges into achievements.

Learning About Deaf Culture

The session continued with valuable insights from Dr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani, a specialist in Deaf education from King Abdulaziz University. He explained the importance of understanding Deaf culture and how communication bridges create inclusion.

Autism Spectrum Overview

Further knowledge was provided by Dr. Mishaal Al-Refai, who highlighted key aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), increasing understanding among employees on how to support individuals on the spectrum within workplace and community settings.

Sign Language Interpretation

To ensure full accessibility, Dr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani also served as the Sign Language Interpreter, making it possible for everyone to follow and benefit from the entire event.
